Gil González Dávila’s Teatro eclesiástico de la primitiva iglesia de las Indias Occidentales

Teatro eclesiástico resized For our project, my partner Nhora Lucia Serrano and I chose to work on Gil González Dávila’s Teatro eclesiástico de la primitiva iglesia de las Indias Occidentales (Madrid, 1649).  This is a two-volume ecclesiastical history listing new world bishops. We chose this volume because of our interests in Latin American history and culture, and the gorgeous woodcuts of each city’s coat of arms.

Bibliography:

For this copy, the title page is missing, along with the “privilegio” and “licencia.”  You can see a scan of the missing title page and other prefatory materials at the Universidad de Sevilla’s Fondo Antigo.  The U-Vic copy does contain the author’s “Epístola preliminar” (introductory preface).

Size:

This is a folio, with 6 page groupings (for the most part). We could see the vertical chain lines, but no watermark.
